Tomie shares some of his favorite memories of his mother highlighting her as fun, brave, intelligent, and extremely caring. It’s a fantastic book to add to any home library to celebrate mothers.Ĭlick here to check out my other recommendations by Tomie dePaola. I grew up loving the Little Critter stories by Mercer Mayer.

This book highlights an exciting day full of busy outings with Little Critter and his mom. They visit the aquarium, museum, toy store, and more. I love how it not only highlights exciting adventures a mother and son can engage in together, but it also calls attention to the fact that many times these family outings do not go as planned. No other bedtime book addresses working families as effectively as When Mama Comes Home Tonight. It is sure to become a favorite of both mothers who work and spend time away from home and their children. This is a book every mother needs in her household. A fun and true to life depiction of the heartfelt and imperfect workings of a mother who does her best to cater to the needs of seven children– all in one household, all from her womb. I love how this book highlights that a family functions best when Mom is taken care of and everyone pitches in to keep the household rolling. It is one you will want to read again and again. Three baby owls anxiously await the arrival of their mother after she disappears into the night in Owl Babies by Martin Waddell. This story is a great one to talk about animal mothers and how they are different than human mothers. Doesn’t that sound like a fun way to spend Mother’s Day? It will definitely make all human mothers look like rock stars. Yes, two owl books featured in a Mother’s Day gift post.

Can you tell I’m a bird lover? Owly by Mike Thaler celebrates how mothers can foster curiosity and discovery in their children. Sound familiar to any of you toddler moms out there? Instead of answering them off the cuff, Owly’s mother encourages her son to do the work of discovering on his own. The result is lots of love for Mom in the end.
